Located before the Dam West Recreational area in front of the Mariners Village Resort the restaurant is open year round and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
More than 9 miles of trails are available to hikers at Eldon Hazlet. The 3-mile Cherokee Trail has three separate loops that pass through a mature oak-hickory forest over gently rolling terrain, offering great views of the lake. The Pawnee Trail is a 1-mile loop trail running along the highest point on Carlyle Lake. Both the Cherokee and Pawnee trails lead to Burnside Cemetery, a restored cemetery with tombstones dating to the 1830s.
The Kaskaskian Trail is a 2 1/2-mile loop trail that begins at the park office and passes by the youth campground, the Pawnee Trail, various day-use areas and the Eagle trail, a 3/4-mile loop near the north end of Illini Campground. A 1/4 -mile accessible interpretive trail is located within the 3-acre prairie restoration directly across from the park office. The 1-mile Illini Trail is located across from the Campground Store and loops around the Illini Fishing Pond. All trails are closed Wednesday through Sunday during pheasant season.
The Carlyle Lake Bike Trail, is a cooperative effort between the City of Carlyle and the US Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake! The Trail is comprised of bike trails and routes that connect the City to the southern edge of Carlyle Lake and public lands maintained by the Corps. It’s a great way to tour Carlyle and take in great views of the Lake and adjacent farmland, prairie, and wetlands.
The Trail consists of looped routes within the City that take you through historic neighborhoods, main commercial districts, restaurants, shops. It also consists of an out-and-back ride along the top of the Carlyle Lake Dam and saddle dams maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources. All told, over 20 miles of bike routes and trails are presented.
Carlyle Lake offers good fishing for crappie, white bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, channel and flathead catfish, freshwater drum and carp. Other species commonly caught are green sunfish, yellow bass, yellow and black bullheads. If you like variety, the tailwater area, directly below the lake’s spillway, is a fisherman’s paradise.
The federal lease land and state property provide almost 9,500 acres of wildlife habitat. The Fish and Wildlife Area is blessed with habitat diversity: approximately 2,000 acres of woodland, 5,800 acres of open water and wetlands, 200 acres of grassland and 1,500 acres of cropland planted for wildlife food and cover. The area is divided by the following management areas: Westside Management Area, Eastside Management Area, Flooded Dead Timber Area and Open Water Area.
The Tradewinds Marina is the newest marina on Carlyle Lake and we are inviting everyone with an interest in boating to join. TYC offers many benefits to its members including social events, sailing races, power boating and safe boating activities.

West Access Marina, a year round facility for slip rental or shore storage for large and small boats located at the southwest end of Carlyle Lake. The marina is designed for your family’s enjoyment with safe, clean facilities. It is ideally situated for a variety of water sports from sailing to fishing to just lounging at your campsite or on the beach. The marina is located between the Corps of Engineers Dam West Campground and the new Visitors’ Center and across the road from the new 18-hole PGA golf course.

Coles Creek has a beach and two reservable group picnic shelters that can accommodate up to 75 guests each. The sites provides modern amenities like electric hookups, showers, drinking water and flush toilets. It is adjacent to Coles Creek Recreation Area and Lotus Group Area.
